Victory @ Naptime is SWEET!

So, an hour and a half ago, when I originally sat down to write this post, it was going to be about something COMPLETELY different.  Then it began...

Mr. Cheeks (my one year old son), will be starting at a new daycare on Monday as I return to work.  Me, the all-knowing new mom, decides it would be a brilliant idea for him to nap this weekend in his pack-n-play in the guest room to get used to sleeping in a new environment.  I even turned on some classical music, to make it just so.  Let me tell you how that went over:

Not exactly the nurturing transition I was going for....

Just let him cry, I said to myself....and headed to the computer to write a nice pleasant blog post.  Just as I was logging on, my husband (who works from home) appears....

Hubby: I just got off the phone with the daycare.

Me: Oh, really?

Hubby:  Yes, and they said it was not necessary to make this transition traumatic in any way, and so I think you can move him back to his usual napping place in his crib.

SILENCE....

Me:  Thanks. (As if I wasn't feeling bad enough as the screams were echoing through the ENTIRE house...even the dog was hiding)

Nothing quite like a helpful husband.

So, I re-enter the scary nap chamber (or beautifully decorated guest room), with hubby in tow, to discover a very dramatic one year old putting on an Emmy Award Winning show, as though the pack-n-play was on fire and he was being tortured to death.

My husband looks at him sympathetically, and I say: Thanks, I got it from here.
He exits with a pitiful wave, and the battle ensues....

Long story short, I was determined not to give into what was clearly a power struggle.  I tried back rubbing, I sang, I pretended I was sleeping, I even used some techniques from this book and anyone listening would have had me committed, and after an hour of feeling like this:

HE GAVE IN.

Victory was followed by some silent acrobatics to get myself OUT of the scary nap chamber without waking my precious son, I left with the ultimate prize:
